Folcroft Public Library Seeks New Director
The Folcroft Public Library is seeking a new Director.
General Description:
This is an administrative and professional position which entails directing the operation for Folcroft Public Library within the framework established by the library’s By-Laws and Library Board of Trustees. Duties are performed with a high degree of independent judgment and initiative. The position is part-time, 25 – 30 hours per week with a payment of $25 dollars an hour.
Requirements:
Must meet or exceed the Pennsylvania State’s educational certification criteriaServing as library spokesperson for public relations and marketing activities with the ability of identifying the needs of a culturally diverse population which creates a welcoming environment for all patrons, employees and community partners
Attend County Library System meetings, trainings, and appropriate workshops along with conferences including bi-monthly director’s meetings
Attend Library Board of Trustees meetings and providing a director’s report, and attend borough meetings quarterly and provide a report
Complete various reports for the Board of Trustees, Borough Council, State Library, and Delaware County Libraries
Hold staff meetings and recommend services and policies to the Library Trustee Board
Managing/Training library staff and volunteers, responsible for overall routines of the library, scheduling staff work hours, submitting payroll, hiring and firing personnel
Manage all day-to-day financial operations of the library including purchase orders, monthly revenue statements, monthly bill coding and petty cash reports. Experience with bookkeeping is preferred.
Operate the library within the budget restraints; seeks, develops and administers external funding sources to support the expansion of library services. Grant writing experience preferred.
Responsible for the selection and deselection of all library materials, cataloging, circulation, and interlibrary loan librarian functions.
Develops and manages the selection of all library collection through materials selection, acquisitions, cataloging, weeding and reviewing professional journals along with book review sources
Supervising maintenance of library building and grounds
Responsible for planning, organizing and co-coordinating all library activities
Keep abreast of industry related information, knowledgeable of key trends in library science, including the ability to evaluate emerging technologies
Technology skills, organizational, interpersonal skills and strong problem solving ability, demonstrative good oral and written communication skills
Answering/Resolving all library related reference questions and complaints
Promote the library and its events (i.e., press releases, social media, etc.)
Coordinate and support library events such as book clubs, classes, etc.
Work with and provide support to the Fundraising Committee
Ensure the safety and health of patrons and staff.
Performing other duties as designated by the Library Trustee Board
Qualifications:
Library Assistant Certification (9 credit hours of library science courses) plus completion of at least 27 college credits hours preferred.
Strong organizational and interpersonal skills as well as problem-solving and pays close attention to detail.
Ability to work effectively with staff and the public.
Ability to perform budgeting and other basic fiscal duties.
Requirements:
Pennsylvania Criminal, Child Abuse, and FBI background checks required.
Completed Mandated Reporter Training.
